This last weekend, I spent some time down in LA hanging out w/ a friend I hadn’t seen in ages. The theme for the weekend ended up being sweet potato fries. No actually, the themes were eating and shopping, but we did have sweet potato fries both days.
Flew down Friday afternoon and went straight from the airport to Beechwood, now Brooke Williamson’s sole outfit since the closing of Amuse Cafe. I think that place never did recover from the liquor license thing. Anyway, Beechwood.
In retrospect, we probably should have opted to sit out in the bar area — a really great space — instead of in the dining room. Wanting to have as many options as possible, we started w/ the trio of fries (shoestring, sweet potato and regular) — it was a massive appetizer. Followed by the chilled heirloom tomato soup and pork ribs. The ribs were definitely tender, but lacked any real pizzazz. Tasty, but not earthshaking. And for dessert peach clafouti — a fruity, cakey peach number with vanilla ice cream. Next time I’ll sit in the bar and have a burger (which from past experience is quite good!). We finished dessert by 8:15 – just enough time to close down Nordstrom Rack with a little shoe shopping.
