I hit two Trader Joe’s today in search of new fall items. First stop had almost nothing out yet, just pumpkin waffles, canned pumpkin, frozen spaghetti squash spirals, and the new pumpkin overnight mask. Kind of a bust – the FOMO is real! So I hit up another location at lunch, and they were still getting stuff onto the shelves. But I did score a box of Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Mac n Cheese Bites.
So, I’m not a superfan of the regular Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese. (I know, blasphemy). When I had it last year, it was over spiced and just not my jam. But these Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese Bites are a little more subtle in the spice department. I’m just gonna predict it right now: These are gonna be a football season must-make.
Health food, they are not. But all things considered, not that shocking for mac ‘n cheese. And I mean, if you’re just looking for something to satisfy that mac ‘n cheese craving without eating a whole meal, these could be the perfect solution for you.
Each box comes with 10 bites, and I air fried them. 10 mins at 400F, per the box instructions, rolling them around about half way through. They’ve got a nice breadcrumb coating to give them a little crunch, the cheese does give a little stretch, but nothing crazy. And you can definitely taste the butternut. Are they a buy again? Definitely. I never tried the regular mac n cheese bites, so I might have to grab a box of those next time, too.
